This and similar images of a woman carrying plants in pots appear frequently in Dunbar’s sketches from the period 1945-52, as though she was striving to revive her pre-war images of female figures associated with the Nature’s bounty. However, nothing seems to have developed from this sketch, done in the Indian ink she favoured in her immediate post-war years, perhaps as a result of its renewed availability after wartime shortages.
