Dunbar often illustrated her personal letters lavishly, weaving her text around her drawing. Here a rose and a variety of pink are growing from the same stem. In known examples, to (for instance) fellow artists Charles Mahoney, Allan Gwynne-Jones and Edward Bawden, Dunbar used water colour to enhance the effect.
