Dunbar is experimenting with various weights of shading to achieve textures leading to a sense of depth. It is not known who her subjects were.The significance of the word ‘injury’ on the extreme left is lost, but Dunbar was in the habit of writing odd notes, lists and reminders to herself on her sketches.
