Dunbar often illustrated her personal letters lavishly, weaving her text around her drawing. Here various flowers including a tulip, a rose and a sunflower grow out of the same stem. In known examples, to (for instance) fellow artists Charles Mahoney, Allan Gwynne-Jones and Edward Bawden, Dunbar used water colour to enhance her effect.
