A scene at The Cedars, the Dunbar family home in Strood, Kent, from 1924-1946. Florence Dunbar, the artist’s mother and a very keen gardener, is peeling home-produced pears, preparatory to serving them as, for instance, baked pears in syrup. One of Dunbar’s sisters, Jessie or Marjorie, is dozing in the background. This room, identifiable among other features by the fireplace, is also the setting for A Knitting Party, the greeting card/calendar here numbered 32.
