Nothing is known about this slightly haunting pen, ink and wash study of a woman and child seated on a bed. In the absence of any other indication it’s likely to be an illustration for a children’s story of the type Dunbar produced - and sometimes wrote - in the years between leaving school and taking up full-time study at the Royal College of Art. This would date it to 1925-29.
