This image was  featured on the front cover of 'The Sphere',  The Sphere, London, 12 May 1917



The scene depicts the Ballarat on April 25th 1917 homeward bound with a large number of Australian troops on board when she was torpedoed by a German submarine. The troops lined up in order to man the lifeboats. 


This image is featured in the book The Art of Fortunino Matania: catalogue of original art & prints (fig 187).
