This is the first Christmas card sent jointly after Dunbar’s marriage to Roger Folley in 1942. Dunbar continued to design Christmas cards, often with original texts by Roger Folley, until 1959, the year before she died. Dunbar wrote of it: ‘Our first Christmas card. At that time Roger was in the R.A.F. and Evelyn an official war artist, so the symbolism is obvious. The distant peaks, one imagines, are meant to suggest the brief “leave” periods in the Lakes or Yorkshire fells.’
