Seated Muses featured prominently in Mahoney's  mural for Morley College, (1928-30).  During the 1950's he revisited the theme - incorporating the motif of an artist seated sketching inspired by nature -  producing abundant  compositions which are richly poetic in their narrative and  landscape.
