In 1929, John Luke won second prize for a painting in modern-day dress in the Slade ‘Summer Prize Competition’ with Judith and Holofernes. The painting is now in the collection of Armagh County Museum. Luke’s sister, Sadie, appears to have been the model for both female figures in the painting.
