Mahoney's unbridled enthusiasm for plants was shared with Edward
Bawden, Geoffrey Rhoades, John Nash and Evelyn Dunbar, with whom he
swapped cuttings by post. Auriculas - deeply unfashionable at the time
- were one of his particular passions. He loved the sumptuous colour
combinations and formal arrangement of the leaves and petals.
