The steamer shown almost certainly belongs to the Ellerman Wilson line fleet - and might possibly be the Salerno, built 1924, although this was a ship that did not normally carry passengers. The artist however would most likely have had good connections with the shipping trade - his uncle, David Bone, was the commodore of Anchor LIne and a distinguished writer about the sea.
