Hagedorn trained as a textile designer at the Municipal School of Technology at Manchester lasted from October 1906 to November 1907. He produced commercial work for Radio Times and Shell. He won the Grand Prix for a series of Shipper' Tickets exhibited at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriel in Paris in 1925.
