Literature: Gargoyles & Tattie-Bogles: the lives and work of Douglas Percy Bliss and Phyllis Dodd, Fleece Press, 2018.

Writing to Edward Bawden `(undated, but 1924), Douglas related: ‘I have done another Tattie-Bogle – a larger woodcut.I am troubled by Gargoyles & Tattie-Bogles. Have you ever seen small boys in the fieldswith clappers “shooing” away the crows from the new sown tatties (anglice potatoes)or crops? – a pathetic enough sight now very uncommon.’

We are grateful to Simon Lawrence for assistance.
