Literature: Charles Cundall - A Working Method, Edited by Sacha Llewellyn & Paul Liss, published by Liss Llewellyn Fine Art, February 2016.

In two genres Cundall excelled - he was a master of  painting crowd scenes - whether at Irish cattle markets,  or sporting events  such as The Derby 1933 (Tate).  He also excelled in painting industrial scenes, with compositions spanning half a century recording  sites in England, Scotland Wales and Greece (ill Mitchell Engineering Works in Greece,). The series of paintings commissioned by Harald Peake to record the burgeoning Steel Company of Wales centered on Port Talbot in Glamorganshire are unique  in their combination of landscape painting with modern day industrial subjects painted on an epic scale (each painting measuring over 150 cms in breadth).
