Provenance: Given by Spencer to Charles Mahoney


Mahoney and Spencer were both on the staff of the Royal College of Art and served together in Ambleside, during the Second World War, when, in 1940, the RCA was evacuated to the safety of The Lake District.  The School of Paintings was run by Gilbert Spencer, and Charles Mahoney, together with Charles Mahoney.
