Portrait of the artist's father (1926) to reverse

The pictures in the upright racks jutting out from the foreground clearly identify this space as the artist’s studio. The crate of apples on a farmhouse slatback chair, which partially block both the doorway and the plan chest, are presumably temporarily placed as such for the purpose of this still life composition.
