In 1954 Evelyn and Roger assembled all the Christmas cards they had put together between them since the first in 1942 in a loose-leaf folder. They planned to publish them as an album, but the project never came to anything. Evelyn added her own note to each one.
For 1951 she wrote ‘ Elms, Hinxhill, Ashford and sunshine in the vinery.’ She and Roger had recently moved from Oxfordshire to near Wye, in Kent, where Roger had been appointed to the Wye College staff. ‘The vinery’ was a conservatory in which a large vine grew.
We are grateful to Christopher Campbell-Howes for assistance.
