Marcel Augis (Pseudonym of H. Dupont) was one of  a number of French and Belgian artists who trod the battlefields of the Western Front during the Great War. They recorded the battles and battlefields and everyday life of the  Allied troops.  The resutling prints would have been sold to soldiers returning home after the War or subsequently purchased on the many battlefield remembrance tours that took place in the 1920s.
