Provenance: The collection of Count William de Belleroche

It is likely that these women, both wearing working dress, (and notably trousers) are either in the process of cleaning windows or possibly putting up posters.  During WW1 Belleroche made a series of studies of Selfridge girls in various activities which record in part the change to their working environment.

The drawing is preparatory study for a lithograph that was possibly not editioned but the stone is in the collection of Elizabeth Harvey-Lee.

We are grateful to Elizabeth Harvey -Lee for assistance.
