Horses were a favourite subject of Austin's, especially early in his career. This original plate, the print of which is either extremely scarce and more likely was never editioned, is possible the very first recorded example of a etching by Austin. The image has much in common with Austin's slightly later The Trace Horse (1921) and The Horse of Ostend, (1922), though stylistically owes more to Edmund Blampied
Other examples of original plates by Austin are in the collection of The Royal Academy, Canterbury Museum, The Hunterian in Glasgow and The Ashmoleon
in Oxford.
