This large panoramic drawing was exhibited at the Royal Academy
a year after Gardiner died, the last of twenty-six of his works
exhibited over four decades. Although Gardiner mostly drew the
Cotswolds where he lived, he had a natural affinity with the landscape
of Scotland, especially Argyll, where he made several painting
expeditions, especially after the Second World War. He exhibited Argyll
subjects at the Royal Academy consecutively in 1946, 1947 and 1948.
