Literature: Raymond Sheppard, Master Illustrator, Liss Fine Art, November 2010, Cat.42

This drawing was previously attributed to Raymond Sheppard.  Sheppard - author of three Studio 'How to Draw' (Birds and Animals) publications - was a keen collector of works by his contemporaries and  might well have worked alongside or even been taught by Skeaping at Central.

According to Skeaping's son the writing corresponds with Skeaping's and the outline to the drawing and the way the pastel [conte crayon?] had been turned on its side a habit father used

We are grateful to Nicholas Skeaping for assistance.
