Sorrell made a trip to Iceland in 1934, and drawings inspired by this trip were exhibited at Walkers Gallery in Bond Street in 1935.
This scene shows everyday working life in Iceland as the fish are taken off to be smoked.
The composition is reminiscent of The Long Journey and the narrative is similarly conveyed by the actions of the bodies rather than the faces, which are not defined.
