Provenance: the artist's own collection. From her teenage years on, into her mid 1920's Winifred Knights produced a handful of self portraits, usually in pencil without colour. The un self-conscious early portraits are later replaced by increasingly intense and introspective compositions, characterised by a nervous, introspection, as depicted here.
