Harry Morley was a key figure in the British Tempera Revival. During
the 1920s he produced a series of tempera paintings inspired by
Classical myth, painted with great clarity of form and strong primary
colours. Apollo and Marsyas was acquired by the Chantrey Bequest in
1924 for the Tate.
