Lucy was born in Stantonbury, Bucks in 1870 but the family had moved to West Ham, Essex by the time she married Brangwyn. Reported to be a nurse, her marriage certificate described her as a spinster.  She died in 1924.

Dr Horner has pointed out that although 1000's of letters from Brangwyn survive the only times he refers to Lucy is to tell his friends she is ill.  After the wedding he went off to Italy on his own.  Lucy's sister was with her when she died in London - Brangwyn stayed in Ditchling and there is no evidence of any expressions of great remorse on his part.
