Provenance: The Artist's Family
Freedman was particularly drawn to, and successful at, creating night scenes and street scenes. In this study both interests are combined.
Two of his most success street scenes are in the museum collections: A London Street Scene (Salford Museum & Art Gallery) 1930
And The Street Scene' at Tate.
For his Tate picture the artist said, in 1956, that there had been many preliminary studies, but these had disappeared and he had no record of them.
The scene was not a specific street, but a composition based on various sketches done from memory."
