Provenance: The Artist's Estate

in the later half of the 1940's, Adnams  – the leading Surrealist in Derby – borrowed  African sculpture from the city’s museum for closer study, working several into her finished paintings such as Medusa Grown Old, oil on panel, 1947.

This pencil study shows another, similar figure, also borrowed from Derby Art Gallery for the purpose of further study.
