The Little Boy and His House was published by; J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd in 1936, a collaborations between Stephen Bone (author) and Mary Adshead (illustrator).
The book featured fourteen colour-lithographed plates together with printed calligraphic text and other illustrations and decorations in black and white.

The story tells of a little boy who wants to build a house because he always seems to be either too hot or too cold in his own. His uncle takes him on a worldwide trip to discover how people from other cultures construct their homes. They visit cave dwellers, gypsies, Red Indians, Eskimos, boat people in China, straw hut and adobe house-dwellers in Africa, stone quarriers in Ireland and log house builders in Sweden, among others.

The setting for this composition is probably Barra in Scotland.
