Although Mahoney was in the Paintings Department of the Royal College of Art, (unlike his contemporaries Bawden and Ravilious who were students in the Design department), he is know to have produced applied art designs for stage sets , illustrations and fabric designs (including a quilt for his mother Bessie). The purpose of this screen design is not known.
