This was probably painted while the soldier was stationed in the UK, prior to the change of the regiments badge in April 1944.  

Hodge who enlisted in the Artists' Rifles saw active service in World War I as a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery and later published watercolours relating to his battle experiences in France.
