Kenneth and Diana Rowntree stayed with Eric and Wanda Newby in Italy in the early 1970s. Newby (1919 – 2006) was an English travel author - his best known works include A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush, The Last Grain Race, and Round Ireland in Low Gear.
