The Artist's Wife at her dressing table, circa 1916

Framed (ref: 1793)
Watercolour, 3 1/8 x 2 3/4 in. ( 8 x 7 cm.)

Tags: Ethelbert White watercolour leisure women

Provenance: The Artist's Estate
In a gilded oak square section frame with broad bevelled gilded inner slip

This comes from a series of tiny coloured drawings, some done on the back of cigarette packets, from around 1916 when the artist was working as a conscientious objector on a farm in Deven.  The subject is almost certainly Betty, his wife - White rarely drew or  painted anyone else.

We are grateful to Hilary Chapman for her assistance.
