Francis Plummer studied at the Royal Academy between 1949-54, where he was the recipient of the Leverhulme Award. Following on from this, he was employed as a medical illustrator at Guys Hospital, and had much of his work reproduced in medical journeys of the day.  

In a Pathé documentary made about the artist, his style is described as 'a logical development of William Blake', and preoccupied with harmonies and shapes developed from the human form.   

He held a one man show at the Alywn Gallery in Mayfair in 1975, entitled 'To Be Born Again'. This was followed some years later by an exhibition at The Minories in Colchester.
