Wokingham was the hometown of Amy Dyer, who would later become Finney's wife. When his Chiswick studio was damaged in the Blitz, Finney was granted leave from the Civil Defense because of ill health, and transferred all of his belongings to a garage belonging to Amy’s sister in Wokingham.
