Although Finney was reclusive and reluctant to show his work, he did exhibit at the RA Summer Exhibitions, the N.E.A.C. and the Paris Salon. This work owes a debt to French Art, and in particular the pointillism technique which was developed by George Seurat and Paul Signac at the end of the nineteenth-century. The tiny figures of a mother and child, seen through the open window, also bring to mind the paintings of Vuillard and Bonnard.
